Prescott's histories are some of the finest that I have ever read. In these volumes he deals with two pivotal sovereigns of Spain. They presided over the expulsion of the Moors, and they also provided rather meager support for Columbus in his voyages of discovery. Sadly, they also sponsored the Spanish Inquisition.
The author is a gifted writer whose narrative is never boring nor hard to follow. In addition to this three volume work, he also told the stories of the conquest of the Aztecs and the Incas. His histories which were written during the mid 19th century are as fresh as if they had been published last week. If you are interested in his subjects, Prescott's works are "must reads"!
